Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Food & Drug Retailers and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.26% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.76% or 39.00 points to trade at 1453.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 2.58% or 21.00 points to end at 835.00 and London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) was up 2.03% or 63.00 points to 3171.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which lost 2.04% or 4.900 points to trade at 234.900 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 1.99% or 86.00 points to end at 4238.00 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 1.85% or 45.00 points to 2386.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1083 to 884 and 408 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.43% or 17.15 to $1213.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.48% or 0.78 to hit $53.41 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.66% or 0.92 to trade at $56.24 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.78% to 1.2583, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8575.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.84% at 99.58.
