Germany shares higher at close of trade; DAX up 1.30%

Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Beverage, Utilities and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.30%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.84%, and the TecDAX index added 1.25%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG), which rose 4.02% or 0.965 points to trade at 24.995 at the close. E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) added 3.89% or 0.535 points to end at 14.280 and BASF SE NA O.N. (XETRA:BASFN) was up 2.62% or 2.430 points to 95.070 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG), which lost 1.89% or 0.240 points to trade at 12.475 in late trade. Daimler AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DAIGn) declined 0.70% or 0.610 points to end at 87.090 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) shed 0.04% or 0.050 points to 114.900.

The top performers on the MDAX were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which rose 5.50% to 12.180, Wacker Chemie O.N. (XETRA:WCHG) which was up 3.86% to settle at 113.000 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which gained 2.91% to close at 28.625.

The worst performers were Airbus Group (XETRA:AIRG) which was down 0.87% to 60.306 in late trade, LEG Immobilien AG (XETRA:LEGn) which lost 0.59% to settle at 74.570 and Kuka AG (XETRA:KU2G) which was down 0.39% to 70.920 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which rose 4.09% to 12.595, Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which was up 3.82% to settle at 4.645 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (XETRA:PSAGn) which gained 3.15% to close at 12.450.

The worst performers were Dialog Semiconductor (XETRA:DLGS) which was down 1.01% to 41.675 in late trade, Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which lost 0.71% to settle at 47.000 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which was down 0.15% to 27.085 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 564 to 174 and 32 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 1.99% to 19.00.

In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.53% or 6.50 to $1212.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.45% or 1.28 to hit $53.42 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.60 to trade at $58.73 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.65% to 1.0851, while EUR/GBP fell 0.54% to 0.7301.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.71% at 97.90.
