Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Insurance and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.70% to hit a new 1-month high, while the MDAX index gained 1.00%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which rose 2.61% or 0.380 points to trade at 14.920 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 2.36% or 2.950 points to end at 127.700 and Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) was up 2.09% or 0.215 points to 10.490 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 3.15% or 0.405 points to trade at 12.445 in late trade. BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) declined 1.94% or 1.400 points to end at 70.580 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) shed 0.55% or 0.460 points to 83.890.
The top performers on the MDAX were Airbus Group SE (F:AIRG) which rose 5.06% to 54.325, Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which was up 4.49% to settle at 52.600 and Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which gained 4.28% to close at 28.515.
The worst performers were Osram Licht AG (F:OSRn) which was down 7.57% to 47.050 in late trade, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which lost 1.20% to settle at 41.245 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which was down 1.03% to 63.280 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which rose 6.48% to 3.830, Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was up 4.72% to settle at 31.260 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which gained 3.53% to close at 45.650.
The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 2.25% to 71.580 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which lost 0.92% to settle at 5.370 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 0.82% to 51.880 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 579 to 291 and 24 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.72% to 18.17.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.43% or 5.75 to $1334.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.19% or 0.94 to hit $41.98 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.39% or 1.08 to trade at $44.15 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.05% to 1.0990, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.8383.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 97.32.
