Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Consumption sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 4.95% or 0.87 points to trade at 18.46 at the close. Multiplan SA (SA:MULT3) added 2.65% or 1.50 points to end at 58.05 and Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) was up 1.82% or 0.31 points to 17.32 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3), which lost 4.48% or 0.76 points to trade at 16.20 in late trade. Vale SA (SA:VALE5) declined 3.99% or 1.11 points to end at 26.73 and Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:CYRE3) shed 3.54% or 0.35 points to 9.54.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 188 to 159 and 36 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.94% to 37.43.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.43% or 5.10 to $1172.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.09% or 1.04 to hit $50.81 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.39% or 0.55 to trade at $141.57 .
USD/BRL was down 0.26% to 3.3740, while EUR/BRL fell 1.50% to 3.5827.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.83% at 101.11.
