Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Life Insurance/Assurance and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN), which rose 6.99% or 18.90 points to trade at 289.20 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 5.99% or 30.90 points to end at 546.50 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was up 4.55% or 124.00 points to 2850.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aviva PLC (LON:AV), which lost 2.56% or 12.700 points to trade at 482.700 in late trade. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 2.04% or 39.00 points to end at 1876.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 1.98% or 125.00 points to 6200.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1367 to 736 and 474 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.31% or 16.50 to $1242.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.84% or 1.48 to hit $37.02 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.60% or 1.05 to trade at $39.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.4319, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.7753.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.37% at 96.58.
