Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Power and Manufacturing sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX gained 2.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were SG mechel (MCX:MTLR), which rose 11.47% or 6.42 points to trade at 62.39 at the close. Tatneft-3 (MCX:TATN) added 8.59% or 25.30 points to end at 319.90 and Sberbank (MCX:SBER) was up 6.40% or 5.50 points to 91.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p), which lost 14.46% or 33400 points to trade at 197600 in late trade. Ros Agro PLC (MCX:AGRO) declined 5.09% or 57 points to end at 1062 and Akron (MCX:AKRN) shed 3.66% or 145.0 points to 3815.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 158 to 81 and 6 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 0.99% to 45.830.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.03% or 0.30 to $1098.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 7.18% or 2.12 to hit $31.65 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 7.85% or 2.29 to trade at $31.55 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 4.91% to 78.835, while EUR/RUB fell 5.44% to 84.743.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.33% at 99.47.
