Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Resources, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 2.29% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index lost 2.26%, and the TecDAX index fell 2.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn), which fell 0.62% or 0.100 points to trade at 15.990 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) fell 0.99% or 0.150 points to end at 15.010 and SAP AG O.N. (DE:SAPG) was down 0.99% or 0.710 points to 71.340 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn), which lost 3.85% or 2.760 points to trade at 69.000 in late trade. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) declined 3.76% or 3.340 points to end at 85.440 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) shed 3.57% or 0.620 points to 16.750.
The top performers on the MDAX were DMG Mori Seiki AG (DE:GILG) which rose 0.97% to 36.815, Man SE ST O.N. (DE:MANG) which was down 0.26% to settle at 91.010 and Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which lost 0.31% to close at 78.040.
The worst performers were Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was down 5.27% to 57.710 in late trade, Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which lost 4.09% to settle at 21.335 and Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO O.N. (DE:FPEG_p) which was down 3.88% to 40.995 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were QSC AG NA O.N. (DE:QSCG) which rose 1.29% to 1.495, Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which was down 0.01% to settle at 92.000 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which lost 0.08% to close at 51.970.
The worst performers were Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was down 6.86% to 40.700 in late trade, STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which lost 6.77% to settle at 56.490 and BB Biotech AG (DE:BIONn) which was down 6.51% to 246.900 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 635 to 51 and 42 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 9.30% to 27.50 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.35% or 14.70 to $1106.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.65% or 0.56 to hit $33.41 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.98% or 0.34 to trade at $33.90 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.84% to 1.0870, while EUR/GBP rose 1.29% to 0.7463.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 98.76.
