Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials, Insurance and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite rose 3.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Marfin Invest (AT:MRFr), which rose 19.70% or 0.013 points to trade at 0.079 at the close. Athens Water (AT:EYDr) added 10.98% or 0.48 points to end at 4.85 and Centric Hold (AT:DESr) was up 9.52% or 0.010 points to 0.115 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lykos Inform. (AT:LYKr), which lost 9.88% or 0.05 points to trade at 0.47 in late trade. Athens Medical (AT:AMCr) declined 6.86% or 0.048 points to end at 0.652 and Autohellas (AT:AUTr) shed 4.32% or 0.44 points to 9.75.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 71 to 27 and 9 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.18% or 12.50 to $1074.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.83% or 1.43 to hit $35.92 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.88% or 1.11 to trade at $37.62 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.11% to 1.0943, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.7290.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.00% at 98.21.
