Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which rose 5.92% or 6.5500 points to trade at 117.1000 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (L:AHT) added 3.90% or 37.00 points to end at 987.00 and GKN PLC (L:GKN) was up 3.45% or 9.60 points to 287.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Travis Perkins PLC (L:TPK), which lost 6.01% or 118.00 points to trade at 1845.00 in late trade. Pearson PLC (L:PSON) declined 4.86% or 48.50 points to end at 950.00 and Kingfisher PLC (L:KGF) shed 4.20% or 15.40 points to 351.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1260 to 860 and 466 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.20 to $1167.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.40% or 0.18 to hit $45.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.39% or 0.18 to trade at $48.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.5388, while EUR/GBP fell 1.60% to 0.7236.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.27% at 96.29.
