Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 3.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Meggitt PLC (LONDON:MGGT), which rose 2.37% or 11.30 points to trade at 488.70 at the close. Tui AG (LONDON:TUIT) fell 0.52% or 6.00 points to end at 1150.00 and SSE PLC (LONDON:SSE) was down 0.61% or 9.00 points to 1462.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which lost 9.98% or 14.8000 points to trade at 133.5000 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LONDON:AAL) declined 7.64% or 56.60 points to end at 684.40 and BHP Billiton PLC (LONDON:BLT) shed 6.71% or 76.00 points to 1056.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1716 to 492 and 438 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.64% or 7.20 to $1139.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 7.80% or 3.84 to hit $45.36 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 8.61% or 4.67 to trade at $49.48 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.5307, while EUR/GBP rose 0.96% to 0.7377.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.50% at 95.47.
