Investing.com – Greece equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Financials and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite lost 1.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Nireus Aqua (AT:NIRr), which rose 13.04% or 0.012 points to trade at 0.104 at the close. Dromeas (AT:DROr) added 5.56% or 0.006 points to end at 0.114 and Terna Energy (AT:TENr) was up 3.01% or 0.09 points to 3.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bank Of Piraeus (AT:BOPr), which lost 10.12% or 0.043 points to trade at 0.382 in late trade. J. & P. Avax (AT:AVAr) declined 7.77% or 0.040 points to end at 0.475 and Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) shed 6.80% or 0.010 points to 0.137.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 47 to 25 and 4 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.30% or 3.50 to $1173.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.30% or 0.18 to hit $61.19 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $64.50 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.21% to 1.1192, while EUR/GBP rose 0.25% to 0.7118.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 95.57.
