Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, General Retailers and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 5.33% or 240.00 points to trade at 4744.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 5.09% or 44.500 points to end at 918.000 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was up 4.31% or 13.80 points to 333.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 7.21% or 109.000 points to trade at 1403.000 in late trade. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) declined 2.29% or 17.50 points to end at 745.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 1.62% or 12.50 points to 761.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1597 to 730 and 430 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.63% or 7.90 to $1264.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.28% or 0.14 to hit $50.08 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $51.50 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.95% to 1.2300, while EUR/GBP fell 0.95% to 0.8939.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 97.77.
