Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.23% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which rose 8.76% or 36.30 points to trade at 450.90 at the close. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 3.65% or 6.500 points to end at 184.700 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 3.55% or 5.4000 points to 157.4000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 4.22% or 101.00 points to trade at 2294.00 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 2.23% or 115.00 points to end at 5030.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) shed 1.68% or 29.00 points to 1694.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1277 to 869 and 437 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.23% or 3.15 to $1341.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.82% or 1.18 to hit $42.98 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.42% or 1.07 to trade at $45.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.21% to 1.3043, while EUR/GBP rose 0.12% to 0.8494.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.18% at 96.36.
