Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Telecoms and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.02% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM), which rose 6.13% or 0.340 points to trade at 5.890 at the close. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) added 4.84% or 0.73 points to end at 15.81 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) was up 4.32% or 0.56 points to 13.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF), which lost 16.77% or 0.53 points to trade at 2.63 in late trade. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) declined 8.77% or 0.2700 points to end at 2.8100 and Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (TSX:PBH) shed 5.85% or 5.08 points to 81.83.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 512 to 484 and 133 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.76% to 9.51 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.46% or 6.75 to $1456.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.63% or 0.36 to hit $56.88 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.31 to trade at $62.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.02% to 0.7560, while CAD/EUR fell 0.11% to 0.6854.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 98.060.
