Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Power and Precision Instruments sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602), which rose 7.35% or 250.0 points to trade at 3650.0 at the close. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) added 5.15% or 52.0 points to end at 1062.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) was up 4.91% or 142.0 points to 3035.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 4.77% or 13.1 points to trade at 261.7 in late trade. Meidensha Corp. (T:6508) declined 4.57% or 18.0 points to end at 376.0 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) shed 4.32% or 36.0 points to 797.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1829 to 1342 and 295 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.65% to 13.47.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.22% or 0.10 to $46.30 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $48.76 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.35% or 4.35 to trade at $1237.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.02% to 112.10, while EUR/JPY fell 0.25% to 129.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 94.61.
