Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Mining and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which rose 4.91% or 22.0 points to trade at 470.0 at the close. Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) added 3.55% or 105.0 points to end at 3065.0 and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (T:4005) was up 2.52% or 16.0 points to 650.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taisei Corp. (T:1801), which lost 2.29% or 25.0 points to trade at 1067.5 in late trade. GS Yuasa Corp. (T:6674) declined 2.19% or 12.0 points to end at 537.0 and Kajima Corp. (T:1812) shed 1.98% or 20.0 points to 988.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1877 to 1336 and 255 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 14.58% to 15.88.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.55% or 0.26 to $47.81 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.71% or 0.36 to hit $51.16 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 3.57 to trade at $1276.13 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.22% to 110.90, while EUR/JPY rose 0.10% to 130.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 93.82.
