Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dream Office Real Estate Investment Trust (TO:D_u), which rose 12.72% or 2.07 points to trade at 18.34 at the close. Boardwalk REIT (TO:BEI_u) added 10.93% or 4.65 points to end at 47.20 and Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) was up 5.40% or 0.73 points to 14.24 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Encana Corporation (TO:ECA), which lost 10.93% or 0.53 points to trade at 4.32 in late trade. Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc (TO:VRX) declined 9.63% or 12.47 points to end at 117.00 and OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) shed 7.42% or 0.290 points to 3.620.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 397 to 297 and 40 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.17% to 23.70.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.15% or 1.90 to $1228.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.46% or 0.81 to hit $32.12 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.95% or 1.01 to trade at $33.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.33% to 0.7260, while CAD/EUR fell 0.55% to 0.6523.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 96.63.
