Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Optoelectronic, Iron & Steel and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Candmark (TW:5259), which rose 9.84% or 0.19 points to trade at 2.12 at the close. Harvatek (TW:6168) added 9.81% or 0.92 points to end at 10.30 and Twinhead Intl (TW:2364) was up 9.62% or 0.150 points to 1.710 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hsin Ba Ba (TW:9906), which lost 9.96% or 2.60 points to trade at 23.50 in late trade. Htc Corp (TW:2498) declined 6.48% or 7.00 points to end at 101.00 and Accton (TW:2345) shed 4.12% or 1.85 points to 43.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 586 to 165 and 101 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.96% or 0.46 to $48.31 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.73% or 0.36 to hit $49.62 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.37% or 4.85 to trade at $1322.75 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.30% to 32.325, while TWD/CNY rose 0.05% to 0.2051.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.12% at 96.07.
