Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Food and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Japan Tobacco Inc (T:2914), which rose 7.40% or 299.0 points to trade at 4340.0 at the close. Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333) added 6.82% or 139.0 points to end at 2178.0 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) was up 5.03% or 440.0 points to 9180.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 5.72% or 12.7 points to trade at 209.2 in late trade. TDK Corp. (T:6762) declined 3.27% or 240.0 points to end at 7110.0 and Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (T:8830) shed 3.07% or 94.0 points to 2969.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1642 to 246 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 12.42% to 36.03.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 1.10% or 0.35 to $32.55 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 1.17% or 0.39 to hit $33.23 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.46% or 5.00 to trade at $1101.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.00% to 118.78, while EUR/JPY rose 0.10% to 128.38.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 99.51.
