Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.87% or 25.00 points to trade at 670.50 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.93% or 8.20 points to end at 287.95 and Wolseley PLC (LON:WOS) was up 2.50% or 119.00 points to 4884.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO), which lost 1.33% or 8.00 points to trade at 594.00 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 1.16% or 19.00 points to end at 1624.00 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) shed 1.10% or 95.00 points to 8525.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 977 to 621 and 414 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.58% or 7.23 to $1249.27 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.36% or 0.16 to hit $44.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.13 to trade at $47.24 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.34% to 1.2736, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8761.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 97.15.
