Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power, Consumer Durables and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 0.94% or 4.00 points to trade at 431.75 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 0.14% or 1.95 points to end at 1375.00 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 0.07% or 0.35 points to 518.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bank of Baroda Ltd (NS:BOB), which lost 2.91% or 4.20 points to trade at 140.05 in late trade. NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) declined 2.91% or 5.05 points to end at 168.25 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 2.68% or 6.25 points to 227.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 0.25% to 1381.40, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 0.02% to settle at 290.95 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which lost 0.20% to close at 987.65.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 2.80% to 168.50 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 2.35% to settle at 481.15 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 2.20% to 1727.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1114 to 428 and 15 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1686 fell and 805 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.14% to 13.5425.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.89% or 11.73 to $1327.03 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.11% or 0.05 to hit $46.52 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.64% or 0.33 to trade at $51.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.30% to 63.995, while EUR/INR rose 0.68% to 77.0656.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 91.70.
