Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Materials, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Gran Tierra Energy Inc . (TO:GTE), which rose 3.55% or 0.150 points to trade at 4.370 at the close. Freehold Royalties Ltd . (TO:FRU) added 2.26% or 0.26 points to end at 11.76 and Pason Systems Inc . (TO:PSI) was up 2.22% or 0.39 points to 17.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included MAG Silver Corp . (TO:MAG), which lost 5.40% or 0.93 points to trade at 16.30 in late trade. Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) declined 5.32% or 1.130 points to end at 20.130 and New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) shed 5.19% or 0.280 points to 5.110.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 575 to 545 and 152 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.30% to 16.46.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.75% or 22.60 to $1269.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.24% or 0.12 to hit $49.84 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.20% or 0.10 to trade at $50.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.08% to 0.7803, while CAD/EUR rose 0.39% to 0.6933.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 94.13.
