Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.81% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 10.56% or 1.03 points to trade at 10.78 at the close. MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) added 6.92% or 0.44 points to end at 6.80 and Northland Power Inc . (TO:NPI) was up 6.65% or 1.51 points to 24.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV), which lost 9.44% or 2.320 points to trade at 22.250 in late trade. Barrick Gold Corporation (TO:ABX) declined 7.02% or 2.03 points to end at 26.89 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) shed 6.99% or 1.51 points to 20.08.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 813 to 375 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.22% to 14.35.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.67% or 22.65 to $1333.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 4.49% or 2.01 to hit $46.77 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 4.52% or 2.09 to trade at $48.34 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.72% to 0.7679, while CAD/EUR rose 0.71% to 0.6942.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 96.53.
