Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Colliers International Group (TO:CIG), which rose 6.23% or 3.06 points to trade at 52.17 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 4.87% or 0.96 points to end at 20.66 and Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) was up 4.87% or 0.29 points to 6.24 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intertain Group (TO:IT), which lost 10.39% or 1.17 points to trade at 10.09 in late trade. Element Financial Corporation (TO:EFN) declined 3.62% or 0.53 points to end at 14.12 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) shed 3.59% or 0.130 points to 3.490.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 650 to 500 and 151 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.22% to 13.42.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.50 to $1327.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.02% or 0.44 to hit $42.69 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $44.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.7582, while CAD/EUR fell 0.09% to 0.6897.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.11% at 97.17.
